Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?
  • Through my previous work as a midwife and gynaecological nurse I work with and support women. Whatever stage of life I support women to help make sense of who they are. This includes supporting women who are experiencing peri-menopausal and symptoms of the menopause, and women who have experienced loss of pregnancy at any stage. (Including early or late miscarriage, stillbirth or termination.)
  • I work with adults on a wide range of life's issues. Some of these include communication, abuse, confidence, depression, anxiety, bullying, family issues, grief and loss, self-esteem, personal boundaries, relationship issues, self-harming behaviours and work-related issues. We can also explore working with your inner child, the internal voice which may be telling you you are not good enough, or don't deserve to be seen or heard. There may have been times in the past when power was taken from you or your needs were not met. Together we can explore this and empower you to take back the power and give yourself permission to install new values and boundaries. Reconnecting the child part of you to the adult part of you enables you to recognise and hear your own voice and own values and beliefs.
  • I work with couples. Couples in healthy relationships argue, have different opinions, feel frustrated, insecure and bored at times. Healthy doesn't mean perfect. What improves a relationship is how you choose to move through those challenges together. My role is to help you both with your communication and understanding of one another.
  • I work with young people. I recognise and understand that teenagers and adolescents experience emotional difficulties for a number of reasons. It may be due to a change in their circumstances, such as parental divorce or separation, loss of a loved one, the pressure to 'do well', bullying, lack of confidence or just general confusion in their life.
  • I am also qualified to deliver EMDR sessions, which can be helpful in processing distressing experiences, shift negative self-beliefs, and feel more at peace with your past.

How much do you charge?
My usual rate is £65 per session. (Sessions are 50 minutes.) However, I believe that the benefits of counselling should be more accessible to people regardless of their circumstances, so I do offer some concessionary rate places. Please do not let money concerns prevent you from contacting me if you would like to talk this through.
Couples therapy is £75 for 1 hour, or £90 for 1.5 hours.

EMDR: £75 for 1 hour, or £90 for 1.5 hours

How many sessions will I need?
This can vary from person to person. The counselling I offer is open-ended, this means that it can be as short (six sessions) or long-term as you feel is necessary. This is something we can discuss and explore during the initial consultation, you may get some idea of how many sessions you feel may need. This is also something that we can regularly review together.

Where are you?
I am situated in Knaresborough which has good public transport links, including rail, however I work online using the platform Zoom which means I can work with you no matter where you are in the country!
