Relationships are a crucial part of our lives and contribute to our wellbeing. Being part of a couple takes patience, tolerance and an understanding of not only ourself but also our partner, and there's nothing easy about maintaining a harmonious relationship, unless you live on an island, or in a bubble without any outside influences or stressors.
In your relationship are you...
comfortable talking through your emotions?
encouraged to speak about what is going through your mind or what is concerning you?
comfortable talking to them about something they have said or done without fear of the conversation escalating into a fight?
compelled to hide what is bothering you in order to keep the peace?
Relationships are not immune to the stresses of life and although it often helps to share these with your significant other, there are times when the expectations or perceived expectations of others adds to the strain. Maybe you feel helpless, or your partner just doesn’t give you what you need, or perhaps past resentments and experiences are impacting your view of your relationship.
So what is Couples Therapy? It's not uncommon for couples to reach out when things are not the best. Couples Therapy provides the space to explore whatever difficulties you've been facing and I can help facilitate the more difficult conversations you might have been avoiding or didn't even know you needed to have.
Couples Therapy allows you to sit with your partner and explore each other’s side of the story without interruptions or rows. It enhances your understanding of each other, allows you to discuss any negative feelings or behaviours, external issues, manage differences of opinions and learn how to communicate and be heard. I will not judge or take sides, but give both parties an equal voice, help facilitate change and a greater understanding of each other.
Not all relationships make it, sometimes, once the deeper reality of a partner’s true feelings are exposed, it could hasten the decision to part. However, counselling offers you a safe space to explore your relationship, minimising the emotional trauma to each other and those around you. Sessions cost £75 for an hour or £90 for 1.5 hours, the number of sessions required varies for each couple and so there is no fixed number of sessions, whilst we discuss progress, the choice to continue is always yours.
